Guardians,

The AI train moves fast and it breaks hearts.

In this read:

  1. Microsoft & Apple have a pseudo-breakup with OpenAI

  2. OpenAI has an actual breakup with China

  3. Seriously, what is wrong with OpenAI

Let's dive in, shall we?

“Get your sh*t together, OpenAI” - Microsoft & Apple

In a plot twist, Microsoft ditched its observer seat on OpenAI's board after just eight months. 🚪💨

Apple was set to join but also bailed. Why the drama? Antitrust concerns, with UK, EU, and US regulators sniffing around Microsoft's $10 billion investment in OpenAI.

Meanwhile, OpenAI's spokesperson says they’re grateful and are planning stakeholder meetings to keep everyone in the loop.

Let's see if these regular check-ins will calm the storm or just add more fuel to the fire 🔥

OpenAI Has a Breakup with China

At the World AI Conference in Shanghai, SenseTime unveiled its latest model, SenseNova 5.5, on par with GPT-4o.

However, the real buzz came from OpenAI's announcement that it will block users in China from accessing its tools starting July 9th. 🚫🇨🇳

This move follows rising tensions between Washington and Beijing, including US restrictions on exporting advanced semiconductors vital for AI training.

OpenAI’s decision has caused a lot of concern within China’s AI community, with implications for equitable access to AI globally. 🌐🤖

Everyone’s concerns about AI are coming true. And they said EU was dumb to regulate …

Chinese AI Companies Step Up to Fill the Gap

With OpenAI exiting China, local AI companies are seizing the opportunity. 💼

SenseTime, Baidu, Zhipu AI, and Tencent Cloud are offering millions of free tokens and free migration services to attract former OpenAI users.

SenseNova 5.5 is positioned as a strong competitor to OpenAI’s GPT-4o.

This competitive push may accelerate the development of Chinese AI models, despite concerns about profit margins and innovation. 📈

As US restrictions bite, Chinese companies are finding creative ways to overcome challenges, which is … good for the ecosystem? 🌍

I mean, the only way to make AI accessible to all at this point is to have as much competition as possible. Or just regulate like normal human beings guys, it’s not that hard.

Anthropic's Claude Just Got a Power Up

Claude now features "Artifacts," allowing it to share standalone content like documents, code snippets, and diagrams in a dedicated window. This will make it easier to edit, iterate, reuse and share significant pieces of content outside the main conversation. Learn more here. 📝

A while ago, I shared a video of me creating a budget tracking application in 2 mins using Claude Artifacts. You can watch it here 🎥

Claude is quickly shaping up to be my LLM of choice. 🚀
